Our flag symbolizes the divine right of life, liberty, happiness and peace for ALL people in this great country. Our Flag’s immortal story is written in blood and sweat, in heroic deeds and unremitting toil.

This is the heritage of the people of the United States. Woodrow Wilson said: “This Flag, which we honor and under which we serve, is the emblem of our unity, our power, our thought and shape of this nation. It has no other character than that which we give it from generation to generation. The choices are ours.”

Honoring our flag is a tradition which the Elks began in 1907 and was later adopted by the Congress as an official observance. Carson City Elks celebrated Flag Day with a ceremony in front of their lodge on June 14. Due to the COVID pandemic, the Boy Scouts did not present the flags, as they normally would.

Elks Past State President, Al Bye, read the history of each flag as John Konvicka, Leading Knight, alone presented each historical flag. A brief speech about the 245th anniversary of the Army, by distinguished Sgt. Major Wayne Wilson, followed.
